Mission for the 9-month Internship:

I have a huge desire to bring the knowledge of the truth and love of Jesus Christ, found in God’s Word—the Bible, to Hispanic people. God has provided an opportunity to serve in this mission through working with TBM Missionaries Delwin and Techy Fowler. I will be assisting their church, Bible Community Church of Tarapoto, by teaching in Vacation Bible School, helping at the Children’s Bible Camp, assisting in the women’s ministry, and evangelizing the people living in Tarapoto and surrounding areas.

This internship will last 9 months and will start in August and end in May (I leave for Peru on August 6th). I know that when people know and obey the truth of God’s Word, it frees their lives from bondage of false teachers and their false teachings.

You will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.John 8:32

Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,2 Timothy 1:8-9

BIOGRAPHY:

I, Amber Wave Finney, was born in 1991, along with my twin sister, Violet Joy (yes, we’re identical). I was born first, but we were both the tail-end of eleven children (phew!). The farm I grew up on is near Beloit, Kansas, and my family raises wheat and soybeans. My father was also an engineer, so he, my mother, and my older siblings built a machine shop, where all of us were instructed in mechanics and machining. Because of all of this, I know how to operate heavy equipment, and I can weld and operate lathes and milling machines. Since the year 2014 I’ve had a class A CDL to drive semi-tractors; and since 2018 I’ve had the endorsement to drive school-bus.

When I was young, there were some Christians in my family, but nobody really knew how to share the Gospel clearly and there was a lot of guessing when it came to theology (a DANGEROUS place to be spiritually, yes?). Anger, violence, and fear were things that plagued my life as a little girl; I especially had a fear of death because I was fairly certain that Hell was real and I wasn’t being pleasing enough to God to make it to Heaven. When I was 11, my family started attending a church where I heard the Gospel. I finally trusted the work that Christ did for me on the cross to go to Heaven when I was 15 (it was hard to get the legalism out of my thinking!)

A few years later, my family was led to go to a strong Bible-teaching church and that’s where I really was discipled with good Biblical teaching. Through severe trials, and not being able to use the Bible to answer huge questions (such as on subjects of eternal security for the believer, women’s roles in the church, and what to think about future times), God led me to go to Frontier School of the Bible. This is where I was introduced to the fact that a farmer-bumpkin-girl—like me—could, and SHOULD, be a missionary. I realized that there is a HUGE, HUGE need to bring Bible teaching and the Gospel to other countries, where there are NOT churches and there is basically NO CHRISTIAN influence.

I don’t want to belittle the real needs that are here in the United States for Biblical teaching, but when we start to look at the world statistics, it becomes obvious just how critical the need for truth is in places outside of the United States.

During my time at Frontier School of the Bible, I was led to go on a short-term mission trip to Cuba, and that is where I really got to know and work with Techy Fowler. We were on a team of 11 people for 11 days in 2018. I was so blessed to be there in Cuba, working with the Baptist churches to evangelize in the City of San Juan y Martinez. It was there that Techy shared with me the need for workers to come and help build strong believers in Tarapoto, work alongside Bible Community Church of Tarapoto, and even be sent out to plant other churches.

This is what the Lord has shown me to do, so I will pursue this goal with all my might. Please pray for me, that I would be courageous, and that God would use me for His service to serve Delwin and Techy and the wonderful church in Tarapoto, Peru.
