Thank you so much for all your faithful prayers for the Fowlers in Tarapoto, Peru!!!
I, Delwin, am so grateful to be able to sit at my desk and type a letter today. Really haven't been able to do that since August 16th. Haven't even been able to be in church since then either.
It started the evening of the 15th where I was preaching a wedding and successfully married a couple from our church. I seemed to be healthy and very spirited, but I held my urine all evening and when I got home it became a problem.
After suffering all day Sunday, eventually on Monday evening we went to a private clinic and got little relief except for a shot for the pain. Well, the pain was still strong at 4 am and I told Techy we better go to the hospital. We should have done that much sooner as it turns out they put a catheter and drained the urine and I felt so good again.
An eventful day in the hospital gave us a pretty fair idea of my problem and began the process of tests, examinations, and several visits to the hospital. My prostate is enlarged and that is why I can't urinate. They did plenty of blood tests, one was a PSA exam which if high could be due to the enlargement or it may mean cancer.
The urologist had told me I needed an operation to open up the prostate channel for the urethra but after the PSA came back at 14, I guess 4 is high normal, he said he couldn't do anything until he ruled out cancer. That's the reason for the prostate biopsy I had on Tuesday , the 8th. We won't know the results for three weeks as they needed to send it to Lima to examine it.
Since being out of hospital I've had to have a series of IV's of antibiotics. On Wednesday evening I reacted to that and they adjusted and now I'm through with the IV's and still taking one in pill form. The different side effects have made life a bit more difficult for me, but praise the Lord, I feel much better today and have no needles in my hands which helps the mobility so much for me.
Imagine I already couldn't walk, also using a catheter, and then my hands get taken away with IV’s. I couldn't even get from the bed to the wheelchair without help. Basically, I couldn't do anything, which is discouraging to say the least. Much better now. But I will try to keep you up to date in the process as we know more results and can make more decisions.
Please pray for this situation and for Techy as well as she is my most faithful full-time caregiver and it's tiring and stressful for her as well. Thank you so much for your prayers!!
