Thinking On Things Above

January 13, 2025 | Skip and Betty Harkins

“Set your minds on things above, not earthly things. For you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians  3:2

Hi!  Just a note to let you know how things are going out this way.   In this very uncertain time, we can say that God has been watching over us. We are so thankful we can say “He is a very present help in the time of need.”

Skip seems to be getting weaker as time goes by. His bad leg just gets stiffer and stiffer, and he cannot stand up very well. His eating is good one day but the next day he seems to have no appetite. His speech is so low we can hardly hear him. Naomi has a monitor in her room and her hearing is better than mine. I have hearing aids and can’t seem to catch certain sounds, but we are making out.  He is still attending church unless it is too cold.

Skip has therapy twice weekly and exercises. He has fono twice per week which helps.  He would love to be able to communicate with people, but he makes out ok. We keep tabs on the blood pressure, so it doesn’t go too low. Dr Humberto keeps tabs on him also.

Our ladies have had a good year studying about some extra ordinary women in the Bible study by John McArthur. We went through seven chapters which we will finish when we reconvene in February.

I am hoping to start a singing group this year. A dream I’ve had. I trust it works out. Also, maybe a children’s club with some women of the church.  In November, two of our women attended our national Women in Action convention. They were blessed and came back raring to go in evangelism this year.  We had four people join the church and three people were baptized. Our pastor now has two congregations as one of our churches was losing its pastor and wanted to disband. A young couple from the church are expecting their first baby in Feb.

Naomi went home in November for a month.  Jess and Mary came for 15 days. Our son David comes on January 20 with his wife. His daughter, Kamely is coming any day now also. What a blessing awaits us!

We receive countless blessings. We are so thankful for you all and others who so faithfully  pray for us  and send regular support.
We wish you a very prosperous New Year. May you have countless blessings on your life.

Yours for Brazil,
Skip and Betty

Prayer requests:
For Skip and his needs
For us as we minister to him
For those who come into our midst that they will remain firm
PRAISES:
For spiritual growth among us
We just heard that Carol (Dr. Humberto’s daughter) just recently was baptized and at her testimony, she stated the fact that the very first time she heard the name of Jesus was in Skip & my ministry to her dad back when she was a teenager. What a blessing to hear this!
